Occupational Therapy (OT)
Occupational Therapy (OT) is useful to people across all ages of life. In Early Intervention, OT tends to focus on three main areas: hand skills, visual motor skills, and sensory self-regulation skills. Hand skills, or fine motor skills, include grasping, using both hands together, establishing emerging hand dominance, and manipulating toys with good control. Visual Motor skills include completing puzzles or shape sorters, or building with blocks. Sensory self-regulation addresses the child's attention, body awareness, energy levels, and engagement in age appropriate play, as well as activities of daily living. As the child transitions to Preschool Services, we will continue to work on hand skills through grasping writing utensils, manipulating more complex tools such as scissors, buttons and zippers, and beginning pre writing skills with the imitation of lines and shapes.
