Physical Therapy (PT)

The role of a physical therapist is to evaluate and provide treatment for delays in motor skills. The physical therapist is to work with a child and their family to assist the child to reach their maximum potential in gross motor skills and to function independently contributing to higher self-esteem. The physical therapist helps to promote active participation at home, in school, and in the community. Physical therapy interventions may include: therapeutic exercise, developmental activities, adaptive play activities, mobility training, balance and coordination, training, safety and prevention programs, and activities for promoting overall wellness. The physical therapist can help a child improve range of motion, strength, balance, reflexes, posture and tone.

Why would a family choose to get physical therapy for their child:

  • The child is not meeting their developmental milestones

  • The child is experiencing physical challenges

  • The child has been diagnosed with long-term implications
